Os cães foram levados para o Laboratório de Interação Humano-Animal de Udell, onde participaram em três testes comportamentais.

Os cães com donos autoritários eram mais propensos a serem inseguros com o seu cuidador principal do que os cães do grupo autoritário. Estes cães também passaram mais tempo a procurar proximidade com o seu dono em comparação com a pessoa desconhecida no teste de sociabilidade.

Os cães com donos permissivos seguiram os sinais sociais da pessoa desconhecida, mas não os do seu dono.
